AC - 428
With the advent of the 7 litre Ford V8 engine engine being fitted into the Mk3 Cobra, AC decided to make a GT car available for 1965 which was called the AC 428. The 428 was based on the chassis of the AC Cobra 289 Mk3, which was lengthened by 6 inches. This was the more "civilised" GT version of the big Cobra that was suitable for year round motoring! The chassis of the AC 428 were sent out to Italy for the bodywork to be produced, which was entrusted to coachbuilder Frua, and then the vehicles were returned back to England for engine installation and finishing off for sale. The AC428 was produced from 1965 and carried on to 1973, with bodywork being available in both open and closed versions. A number of these cars have subsequently been cannibalised for conversion into AC Cobras. . .
