Alfa Romeo - Alfa Romeo 1900
Post war, Alfa Romeo rebounded with the prewar designed 6C2500 but it was clear that a compact practical medium sized car was needed with a lower price tag. For 1950 the Alfa Romeo 1900 was on the market, with typically good Alfa Romeo performance from an 1884cc twin overhead camshaft 4 cylinder engine in the best Alfa Romeo tradition, with a modern unitary body construction. The Alfa Romeo 1900, introduced in 1950, was joined in 1953 with the 1900 Super (100 bhp at 5,500rpm) which stayed in production until 1958. The standard bodywork on the Alfa 1900 was the 4 door Berlina, but the sportier 1900 Sprint (4 speed gearbox) and 1900 Super Sprint (5 speed gearbox) were offered by Alfa Romeo bodied either as a Coupe by Touring or a Cabriolet by Pininfarina. But there were many other chassis bodied by other Italian coachbuilders including Zagato and Bertone who used one to create one of their BAT cars.
Tyre size for Alfa Romeo 1900 was a choice of either 6.00x16 or the millimetric 165R400 size. Blockley make the best examples of both these tyre sizes. Our 550x16 is made to L section dimensions and therefore much larger and is perfect for a 1900, and the millimetric Blockley 165HR400 Blockley tyre has steel belt construction and the correct tall dimension, and will be a revelation to anyone trying them, guaranteed.
