Alfa Romeo - Alfa Romeo 6C2300 & 6C2500
The Alfa Romeo 6C2300 was the replacement for the previous Alfa Romeo 8 cylinder models, with a modern all new model designed by Vittorio Jano, now with independent suspension to all 4 wheels using an all new sheet box section chassis frame. This happened around the time that Mussolini stepped in to stop the break up of Alfa Romeo which he considered a national institution, which ensured State funding of the company to keep it solvent. The 6C2300 engine was later enlarged to 2500 cc in 1938 (with the competition version Tipo 256 built at Alfa Corse) until the war put a halt to these proceedings. The 6C2500 was revived post war, the standard factory model being the Freccia d'Oro on the longest 3 metre wheelbase, while the Super Sport (2500SS) had the handsome Touring Superleggera bodywork (as well as a few Villa d'Este), as well as being bodied by a host of other coachbuilders. Production of the Alfa Romeo 6C2500 continued until 1953.
Tyre size for Alfa Romeo 6C2300 and 6C2500 fitted with 18 inch wheels is 550x18, and Blockley produces the perfect tyres in a choice of both Blockley 3 stud and A6C tread patterns. Nothing you can buy is this good. For the later 6C2500 models fitted with the 17 inch diameter wheels Blockley has also produced the "600/650x17" tyre size, with our period correct A6C pattern. This 17 inch Blockley tyre was produced specifically for a 6C2500 we were overhauling, as the alternative choice of tyres in this 17 inch size is particularly unappealing!
