Alfa Romeo - Alfa Romeo Giulia (105 & 115 Series)
The 1600cc Alfa Romeo Giulia was introduced in 1962 as a larger alternative choice to the 1300cc Giulietta, with the introduction of the new Giulia TI unveiled to the press on 27 June at Monza. This was a very practical 4 door car suitable both for long journeys at high speeds, or city driving. Other than the capacity increase, the Giulia Sprint and Giulia Spyder were pretty much the same as the smaller engine version except for small differences such as instrument panel, rear lights and so on. The larger engine of the Spyder meant a distinctive raised panel on the bonnet. The Sprint Special (SS) model had the tuned Giulia 1600 version with special camshafts, that made it difficult to drive in traffic, so most owners had standard camshafts fitted during the first service!
Another Giulia model was the Giulia Sprint GT with Bertone 2 door bodywork, based on the Giulia TI, and first shown in September 1963. The GT signified Grand Touring. For the "sports customer" the Giulia Sprint GT was a lightened version introduced in 1965, with aluminium panels instead of steel in places, the removal of any sound deadening material and fitting a modified twin plug engine to make the Giulia GTA model as first introduced. The Bertone Sprint GT also came with a 1300cc Sprint GT Veloce in 1966.
Tyre sizes for the Alfa Romeo Giulia :
- All the earlier Alfa Romeo Giulia models built from 1962 and 1965, known as the 101 Series Alfa Giulia, were originally fitted with 155R15 tyres from the factory - these would include the Giulia Spider, Giulia Veloce, 1600 Duetto, Sprint, GT Veloce, Speciale, GT and GTC, plus the Sprint Speciale. We make this period correct 155R15, with period correct tread pattern, and for those wanting them we also make a whitewall version, both these 155R15 tyres having a good H (130mph) speed rating. Some owners also fit the slightly larger 165VR15 tyre size.
Tyre size for the 105 and 115 series Alfa Romeo Giulia models made from 1969 to 1977 such as the Giulia Sprint and GTA, these cars were fitted with smaller 14" wheels and the 165R14 tyre size, and Blockley produces a superb good speed rated authentic steel belt construction 165HR14. And for anyone wishing to fit a wider version of this 165HR14 tyre, which many tend to do, Blockley also produces the 185/70VR14 tyre size. Full details of all these superb Alfa Romeo Giulia tyres (for earlier 101 Series and later 105 and 115 series) are shown below:
