Aston Martin - Aston Martin 2 litre 15/98
The 2 litre Aston Martin was also called the 15/98 model, the 15 referring to the RAC tax bracket and the 98 being the horse power of the engine. The 2 litre replaced the earlier 1.5 litre model in 1936, ready for 1937 delivery. This larger capacity 2 litre engine (based on the earlier engine but now enlarged to 78x102mm dimensions) had been offered earlier as an option in the earlier Mk2 Astons. Production of the 2 litre cars, which were built in 2 chassis lengths, carried on to 1940. After the war Aston Martin was purchased by David Brown and a much modified 2 litre continued, initially for racing and publicity purposes, although a few road cars were built up to 1949 , these cars being later referred to as the DB1, after which the Aston Martins were fitted with the new WO Bentley designed 6 cylinder engine that had come as part of the assets of the Lagonda, a company which David Brown had also purchased.
Tyre size for the 2 litre Aston Martin was originally listed as 5.25x18, a size no longer produced. As a consequence all 2 litre Aston Martins are fitted with tyre size 5.50x18, and Blockley has been making this tyre size in both 3 stud pattern and A6C patterns.
