Aston Martin - Aston Martin DB4
The Aston Martin DB4 was a totally new car. For 1958 the Tadek Marek designed all alloy six cylinder 3.7 litre (3670cc) engine was made, coupled to a new platform chassis with a body designed by Carrozzeria Touring, and built to their supperleggera patented principles. The road cars were continually evolved with different rear lights and front grilles but by the time the 4th series was introduced there were some bigger changes. To get more room in the car the bodies were both lengthened and made taller, so to keep the height of the car the same, Aston Martin put these later DB4 on smaller diameter 15 inch wheels. A higher performance DB4 Vantage was offered at this time also, using special cylinder heads quoting 266hp .
The DB4 GT version was introduced for 1959, which had a shorter chassis and light weight bodywork using a lighter gauge of aluminium, along with a highly tuned twin spark plug engines making the DB4GT capable of over 150 mph. Some of these chassis were also bodied in Italy by Zagato. Production of the DB4 carried on to 1963.
The earlier Aston Martin DB4 and DB4 GT both quoted 600x16 tyres which is equivalent to radial tyre size 185R16 and we also have cross ply tyres that will suit. The later DB4 series fitted with the 15" wheels quoted either the cross ply 6.70x15 or the radial equivalent 185R15, and Blockley produces a superb 185VR15 steel belted high speed tyre with period correct tread pattern. Owners wishing to have a wider version of this tyre can fit the 205/70WR15 size that Blockley also produces.
