Aston Martin - Aston Martin DB6
The DB6, introduced in 1965, had bodywork which unusually had not been designed in Italy, but developed in house after considerable wind tunnel testing with the main aim being to try and reduce aerodynamic lift at high speed. The DB6 had a 3 3/4 inch longer wheelbase than the model it replaced, with a distinctive spoiler at the Kamm tail back to reduce lift at speed. With its live rear axle it was perhaps a little dated in 1965. And many Aston Martin owners took a while to get used to the new shape, with it's taller roof line which increased the headroom, which was especially useful for the rear seat passengers. Another additional 2.5 cwt. of weight made it's way into the new DB6 compared to the previous DB5 model, but the Vantage version was still fast enough when tested by the press at over 150mph average.
Original tyre fitment for the Aston Martin DB6 Mk1 was 6.70x15 and later on they list 8.10x15, which equates to a 185VR15 radial and the larger 215/70VR15 sizes respectively. If you wanted to stick with the smaller 185VR15 size but wanted something wider there is the 205/70VR15 size (now W speed rated). But which ever size of tyre you might want, it is a size which Blockley produces with a high speed rated, steel belt period correct looking tyre - details below:
