BMW - BMW 1502 & 1602
The BMW 1602 (originally called 1600-2), was produced from 1966 to 1975. The 1502 model that followed stayed in production to 1977. The number 2 at the end of the model number was indication that the car had 2 door bodywork. These 2 door 1602 and 1502 BMW's had a much shorter chassis than the 4 door cars, and they were also more basic in specification. Consequently the 1602 BMW with its lighter weight made it so much more suitable for competition work. The BMW 1602 used the new single over head cam "M10" 1573cc engine. The BMW 1502 had the exact same capacity but was just a detuned version, so that it was able to use the lowest grade petrol available without any detonation problems, and as such the 1502 was more the "economy" model.
BMW 1602 and 1502 tyre size was originally 6.00x13 but BMW also fitted the radial option 165SR14. Blockley produces a superior quality steel belt construction period correct 165HR13 with good speed rating - see details below. Blockley also produces a wider version of the 165R13 which is 185/70VR13 size, for those wanting a non standard wider tyre with the same diameter. We also produce a 175/70VR13 which is less wide (but marginally smaller in diameter than a 165R13 diameter) for those who may want this size.
