BMW - BMW 2800CS , 3.0 CSL, 2.5CS (E9)
The BMW E9 range of sporting BMW coupes were styled by the coachbuilder Karmann. Available from 1968, the BMW E9 used the 6 cylinder BMW engine from the BMW E3 cars. The BMW E9 range started with the BMW 2800CS which was very surprisingly lighter than the 4 cylinder 2 litre model it replaced! Power steering came as standard. By 1971 the engine was enlarged to make BMW 3.0 CS or the more powerful fuel injected BMW 3.0 CSi . For 1972 the the 3.0CSL was listed, a light weight homologation special to allow cars to be built for the European Touring Car Championship, which BMW won 6 times. The final version of the E9 was the smaller BMW 2.5CS built in 1974 in response to the fuel crisis, after which the BMW E9 model came to an end in 1975.
