BMW - BMW 507

New York importer Max Hoffman wanted something more sporty than the 502 Baroque, with a quality German sports car that would fit between the plethora of cheaper sportscars like MG and Triumph, and be priced under the Mercedes 300SL. If it could be done Hoffman would be ordering many thousands per year. Hoffman had suggested Albrecht Von Goertz for the job of body design, and he ended up designing two models for BMW, a 4 seater coupe and the sportscar BMW 507, which required required new chassis. The engine to use was the all alloy BMW V8 for which Fritz Fiedler had developed twin carburettor  set up. The finished product was beautiful but the price tag made it more than the 300SL Hoffman needed it to be under, so consequently sales were sparse.

Original tyre size was 6.00x16 with radial equivalent 185VR15.
