Bristol - Bristol 409

The Bristol 409 was introduced in 1965, and was a continuation of the Mk2 version of the 408, having the slightly larger Chrysler 318cui. 5211cc engine coupled to the Chrysler Torqueflite gearbox. This gearbox was now 51 kilos lighter since the casing had been changed from iron to aluminium in late 1963. Visually the front grille was much neater and had radiused corners, with the grille now incorporating a couple of extra lights. To quote journalist LJK Setright of the Bristol 409 " everything happens with such a complete absence of drama". Bristol 409 production continued to 1967, and was the last Bristol to be fitted with 16 inch wheels.

Bristol 409 tyre fitment was originally cross ply 600x16 or its radial ply equivalent the 185R16 size. We would recommend fitting the high speed rated steel belt Blockley 185VR16 with period correct tread pattern.
