Delage - Delage D6
The three litre Delage D6 went into production in 1930 just as the stock market crash was starting to take hold. As a consequence to this new financial reality, a more cost conscious version D6 was also added to the catalogue, called Delage D6-11. And shortly after this a more powerful D6-11S which had a 2 litre engine that put the car into the lower 11 hp tax bracket, as opposed to the 17hp tax bracket of the 3 litre. These D6 models were built until 1934. The next Delage D6 was the D6 - 65, now with a longer wheelbase as well as a 2.7 litre engine. But for various reasons the Delage company could not operate in the new economic climate and was eventually taken over by Delahaye in 1935. The famous Courbevoie factory was sold and future Delage motorcars were produced at the Delahaye factory, which meant a new D6-60 and D6-80 for 1935, with the model D6-70 in 1937 and D6-75 in 1939, the production finally ceasing as the Germans made their way toward Paris. Post war the Delage model was called simply D6-3 litre, and production of the post war Delages carried on through to 1954, after which the company was taken over by Hotchkiss.
Tyre sizes for Delage D6:
- The earliest Delage D6 were fitted with 6.00x19 tyre size, and Blockley produces the perfect 600x19 tyre, which we call 550/600x19.
- The later D6 - 11 (as well as D6-11N , 11L , 11S) all had 550x18 tyres which again Blockley produces with two tyre options with a choice of tread patterns. We also produce a larger 18 inch tyre also (called 600/650x18) for when this larger 18 inch tyre suits the bodywork better on the car.
- For the last of the Delage D6 tyre sizes when wheels were reduced to smaller 17 inches, Blockley produces the excellent period correct 600/650x17 tyre.
