DKW
DKW was started in 1916 by the Dutchman Jorgen Rasmussen in Germany, initially producing steam fittings, and an attempt at building a steam car. He also built a 25cc 2 stroke childrens toy adapted later into a bicycle engine, which eventually led on to manufacturing motorcycles. DKW took over the ailing Audi in 1928 and and with the terrible economic climate of the time formed the Auto Union group, adding Horch and Wanderer. The cars subsequently produced were 2 stroke and front wheel drive, and built in large numbers mostly for the domestic market.
