Fiat - Fiat 127
The Fiat 127 was the 904 cc small car that Fiat built from 1971. Initially a 2 door saloon, it quickly became a 3 door with hatchback from 1972, the same time it was voted car of the year. The 127 used the same transverse layout front wheel drive system that got used by the larger 128, the system designed and developed previously and tested with the Autobianchi. The second series of the Fiat 127 appeared in 1977, restyled and also available with a larger 1049cc engine, as well as a 1.3 litre diesel version. The 124 Sport came in 1978 using an uprated Abarth tuned engine, but only on the smallest 1049cc engine. In 1982 there was another redesign with square headlights and a different bonnet, plus a larger 1.3 litre petrol engine which was marketed as the Fiat Giannini 127. Fiat 127 production continued to 1983 when it was replaced with the Uno.
