Ford - Ford Model B & V8
For 1932 Ford produced two entirely new models to replace the Model A. These were not a rehash of the previous model but had new chassis frames with a longer wheel base. The Ford Model B (available until 1934) had basically the same well proven 4 cylinder Ford engine but with a much improved pressure fed crankshaft and some other features. But the Ford Model 18 had the new 3.6 litre "Flathead" V8 engine, known the world over as the "Ford V8", which was replaced by the very different model 40 for 1933 and 1934. These V8's were priced so well that they sold in far greater numbers than Ford had anticipated, which was at the expense of the sales of the 4 cylinder sales. The days of 4 a cylinder car were clearly waning in the USA, which wasn't surprising once you'd heard and experienced the V8 performance, so Ford dropped the 4 cylinder after 1934 and stuck with the V8.
Original tyre fitment for the Ford Model B was 5.25x18. Nobody makes a 5.25x18 tyre, only dual marked 525/550x18 and as we know, these dual marked tyres are in fact a 5.50x18 tyre size, as you cannot have two tyre sizes in one! We would recommend our 5.50x18 size of which Blockley produce a choice of 2 tyres, both tyres identical except for having different tread patterns, and both listed at the same price. In addition Blockley also produces a larger diameter 18" tyre (marked 600/650x18) for those looking for increased gearing. All these Blockleys are exceptional tyres, and not to be confused with other brands of 5.50x18 tyres seen elsewhere.
For the V8 cars, there were various size in 17" (1933 and 1934) and 16" (1935 and onwards) which we can also supply, so contact us for advice. We even list a large 17" tyre we make - Full details of all these Model B and Ford V8 tyres below:
