Ford - Ford Sierra
The Ford Sierra was built between 1982 and 1993 as the updated replacement for the now ageing Ford Cortina and Taunus range on the continent. The engine Ford used for the Sierra was the same well proven Pinto which had seen use in the earlier Cortinas, and also used the same well proven transmission. The more modern look of the Sierra with a more aerodynamic and rounded style was a bit of a shock (and referred to in the press as a jelly mould) and actually took some time to become accepted in the UK with sales initially taking a hit as a result, although in Germany the new shape was well received right from the start. The new shape helped with fuel consumption and the new shape kept the Sierra looking up to date even a decade later.
