Frazer-Nash - Frazer-Nash Prewar
Archie Frazer-Nash set up to assemble Frazer Nash -GN cars after leaving GN, building some cars but the days of the Cyclecar type machine was rapidly ending. So he started building cars with the Gustave Maclure designed four cylinder 1500cc "Plus Power" engine, stronger font axle and totally redesigned and refined, sold as the Fast Tourer or Super Sports. When the Plus Power engine company ceased trading, the only alternative that was suitable was the older side valve design by Maclure which was the Anzani, and these became known as the Boulogne model. The original Frazer Nash Ltd was changed to William G.Thomas and Frazer Nash Ltd when the company moved to the larger premises of Thomas, and by 1927 AFN Ltd. had been formed, and when Anzani got into trouble, it was set up next door at Kingston upon Thames. By 1930 H.J.Aldington was the new owner, with new factory premises in Isleworth, run by the 3 Aldington brothers on a much more commercial basis. Sales were now direct from the Works only, with no more agents or middle men. The TT Replica was the mainstay of the catalogue, introduced from 1932 until the start of hostilities in 1939.
Pre war Frazer Nash tyre sizes vary, the earlier cars from the 1920's having beaded edge tyres originally, as all cars did in that period, and 710x90 would be a good size, although most of these cars now are fitted with 400x19 size. Where listed, all the Frazer Nash cars originally were fitted with 440x19 and later 450x19 which Blockley produces, along with other sizes people have also subsequently used, such as 500x19. Note Blockley also produces a 475x19 tyre which is like a 500x19 but with a diameter closer to a 450x19 . . .
