Hillman - Hillman Sceptre
The Hillman Sceptre was originally intended to be the 4 door replacement for the Sunbeam Rapier, which was based on the Hillman Super Minx. But this idea was dropped as sales were still strong, so it was marketed as the Hillman Sceptre. The Sceptre was available from 1963, based on the Super Minx as mentioned, but with the most powerful engine version, disc brakes, overdrive and generally a top specification model. The Sceptre Mk3 version was an all new design used across the Rootes Group, with the Hillman Sceptre Mk3 being the top of the range model.
Tyre size for the Hillman Sceptre Mk1 (1963 to 1965), Sceptre Mk2 (1965 to 1967) and Scepter Mk3 (1967 to 1976) throughout its production was 6.00x13, and the radial equivalent of this is the 165R13 tyre size. And when Rootes Group started fitting radial ply tyres themselves as standard during Sceptre Mk3 production, it was fitted with this same 165R13 tyre size. Blockley produces a superb period correct good speed rated 165HR13 tyre, full details of which at the link below. Later tyre fitment lists also show an alternative "fatter" tyre, size 175/70R13 for the Hillman Sceptre, and Blockley also produces this size for those wanting a wider tyre than standard - again full details below:
