Jaguar - Jaguar Mk IV
The Jaguar Mk4 is a reference to the three models of cars built by Jaguar in the early post war years, starting in 1945. These cars were Jaguar with the prewar company name of SS having been dropped for the post war years. These different models were basically a contiunation of the SS cars that were being sold prior to the war, with very minor differences such as the radiator badge now showing the name Jaguar only.
The smallest in the range was the Jaguar 1 1/2 litre with the 4 cylinder overhead valve 1776cc engine supplied by Standard, and unlike the prewar Jaguar option was now only available as a saloon. The longer wheel base Jaguar 2 1/2 litre was available from 1946 and had the 6 cylinder Standard engine, again as used prewar, but post war the 2 1/2 litre Jaguars had the overhead valve Weslake designed cylinder head for the SS engines that had been developed for the SS100 - it was only due to the longer engine that the chassis length was increased by 5 1/2 inches compared to the 1 1/2 litre model. The largest engine option was the Jaguar 3 1/2 litre, the most powerful (quoted 125bhp) and probably least fuel efficient for those early post war years! Jaguar now made these 6 cylinder engines themselves, having purchased all existing pattern work and tooling from Standard, so these 2 1/2 litre and 3 litre engines were the first to be built by Jaguar. Production of the Mk.IV Jaguar continued to the end of 1948.
Jaguar Mk IV tyre size for all the models of 1.5 litre, 2 .5 litre and 3.5 litre (made between 1945 and 1948) is the 5.50x18 size, the same size as was used prewar on the SS models. Blockley produce 2 superb tyres in this 5.50x18 size, and for these post war cars out of the two options we would suggest the high quality good speed rated 5.50x18 A6C pattern tyre - see full details of these tyres below:
