Jaguar - Jaguar Mk10 / 420G
The Jaguar Mk10 (later called Jaguar 420G) was available from 1962, shortly after Jaguar purchased the BSA Daimler factory. This luxurious Mk10 replaced the ageing Mk9 saloon and became the flagship modern looking saloon for Jaguar. The Mk10 was a large car, the largest that Jaguar would build, and certainly larger than the XJ series that later replaced it. The modern shape of the Mk10 kept it in production until 1970.
The Jaguar Mk10 had the same 3.8 litre 3 carburettor engine as the E type, and the Jaguar Mk10 capacity increased to 4.2 litres as the larger capacity engine came on line at the factory for 1964. The Jaguar Mk10 was also the first saloon Jaguar to be given independent rear suspension. For 1966 the Mk10 was renamed the Jaguar 420G with minor alterations to radiator grille and trim. It is interesting to realise that while the Jaguar 420G was available, Jaguar was also building their Mk2 and the S Types. When the later model XJ6 made its debut, both the Mk 2 and S Types were withdrawn, whereas the Jaguar 420G continued as part of Jaguars range to 1971.
Wheel size for both the Jaguar Mk10 and the 420G was 14" with the large 205R14 tyre size. Unfortunately in recent decades due to the prohibitive cost of this Michelin tyre (this being the only tyre available in that size until Blockley more recently also produced this), many owners of these Jaguars had little choice but to change hubs and convert to 15" wire wheels and tyres. This whole process cost less than a set of the extremely high priced Michelin tyres supplied by the Classic tyre wholesaler specialists! And that was assuming that these Michelins were in stock. But now that there is a Blockley 205VR14 available things have changed! The superb period correct Blockley 205VR14 is available direct from Blockley at a realistic price, which is only possible because we sell direct to the end user and garages. Whenever Blockley makes a tyre size by some coincidence prices of Michelin tyres fall, although by not so much in this instance. If you need any 205VR14 tyres give us a call, and as with all Blockley radial tyres, we guarantee if they are not the best tyres you have driven on we will refund.

- For Jaguar Mk.10 and 420G that have been fitted in more recent times with 15" wheels, we suggest you fit the tyre size as was used on its sister model Daimler Sovereign. These cars started life with 185R15 tyres but by 1970 were fitted with the wider version 205/70R15 size. Blockley produces high quality period correct examples of both these tyre sizes.
