Lagonda - Lagonda Rapier
The Lagonda Rapier was produced in 1934 and had a 4 cylinder 1100cc twin overhead camshaft engine. This was a little gem which was to be one of the finest 1100cc road cars yet produced, and although the original intention was to build an all alloy engine, it ended up being made in cast iron due to cost constraints, which added some weight. The engine was coupled to a close ratio ENV75 preselector gearbox. But unfortunately around this time the Lagonda company was in financial difficulties, no doubt not helped by this project. For 1935 the new Lagonda company sold on the rights to the Lagonda Rapier to a new company called Rapier Cars, based in Lagondas previous Service department, and these later Ranalah bodied cars were made in small numbers until 1938.
