Marcos - Mini Marcos
The Mini Marcos was produced in 1965 using the Mini suspension and subframes. The engines used were the 848cc Mini engine, as used in the "850GT. These cars had a fibreglass body and a 6 feet 7 inches wheelbase, a little shorter than the normal Mini. At Lemans in 1966 it was the only British car to finish the race. For 1967 the Mini Marcos became the 1300GT now using the 1275cc Mini engine. Rob Walker bought Marcos in 1971 when the company was sold and he produced a further 500 or so of the Mk4 version that was in production when the company was purchased, and these were built until 1975. The project was then sold on to D&H Fibreglass Techniques owned by Harold Dermott who continued producing cars until the late 1980's. But there were licence deals and the cars were built in other parts of the world, and even sold as kits.
Tyre size for the Mini Marcos was originally quoted as 5.20x10 which is 145R10 equivalent. Blockley produces the perfect radial 145R10 tyre. But for owners wanting to fit a wider tyre of the same diameter, Blockley also produces this wider 165/70R10 size also - both tyres with excellent speed rating, steel belt construction and best of all a period correct looking tyre.
