Maserati - Maserati Quattroporte
The Maserati Quattroporte (4 doors) was a large saloon car available from 1964. Initially powered by Maseratis 4.1 litre V8 , it was designed by Frua and was manufactured by Vignale. With it's 5 speed manual gearbox (or automatic option) it was claimed to have a top speed of over 140mph. For 1966 the interior was changed and shortly after a 4.7 litre engine option.
The Quattroporte 2 was first unveiled in 1974, with Bertone bodywork. It was a product of Citroens influence on the Maserati. Built on an extended Citroen SM chassis but with a larger capacity 3 litre V6 engine, and of course front wheel drive. The financial collapse at Citroen did not help the project, during which time Maserati had developed an 8 cylinder version of the V8, but that is something else . .
