Mercedes - Mercedes SE W111
The Mercedes W111 incorporated a large range of cars spanning the years 1959 right through to 1971. These models came with 4 doors, 2 doors and as cabriolets, starting with the in line 6 cylinder 2.2 engine, and eventually growing to 2.8 litres. The models built initially were the saloon Mercedes 220 , 220S and 220SE. For 1961 all W111 models lost the older Fintail bodywork which was now replaced with the super stylish coupe 220SE designed by Paul Bracq, while the 3 models of saloons already mentioned continued to the end of 1965. For 1965 there was the 230S and 250SE with the 280SE introduced in 1967. By 1969 the 280SE Coupe was joined by the Mercedes 280SE 3.5 Coupe and Cabriolet which had the V8 engine.
Tyre sizes for Mercedes W111 models:
- Saloon models Mercedes 220 , 220S , 220SE , 230S had tyre size 185R14
- Mercedes 220SE Coupe and 220SE Cabriolet tyre size 185R14
- Mercedes 250SE Coupe and 250SE Cabriolet tyre size 185R14
- Mercedes 280SE Coupe and 280SE Cabriolet tyre size 185R14
- Mercedes 280SE 3.5 Coupe and 280SE 3.5 cabriolet tyre size 205/70R14
So in conclusion the original tyre fitments for the Mercedes W111 models were a choice of 2 tyre sizes. 6 cylinder models all came with the 185R14 size and Blockley produces this 185HR14 tyre in standard and whitewall choices, although many people (including the car we have) fit the wider 205/70VR14 size in place of the narrower tyre. The V8 engined W111 280SE 3.5 had the 205/70R14 tyre size, and Blockley produces this high speed rated 205/70VR14 . See full details of these tyres below:
