Mercedes - Mercedes W116
The S-Class luxury four door W116 saloons were built from 1972 and came with a choice of three engines: the 2.8 litre straight 6 carburettor 280S, the fuel injected 280SE or the V8 3.5 litre 350SE. For 1973 two new models were added to the range fitted with 4.5 litre V8 engines and called the 450SE and the longer wheelbase 450SEL. In 1974 the W116 was voted the European car of the Year. By 1976 the 450SEL6.9 with the V8 6.9 litre engine was added to the range, built using the longer 450SEL chassis. The diesel engine version of the W116 was the 300SD model. Production of the W116 Mercedes continued to 1980.
Mercedes W116 models and their tyre sizes were :
-Mercedes 280S , Mercedes 280SE and Mercedes 280SEL were all fitted with tyre size 185R14 .
-Mercedes 350SE and Mercedes 350SEL have tyre size 205/70R14.
- Mercedes 450SE and Mercedes 450SEL have tyre size 205/70R14.
- Mercedes 300SD originally had tyre size 185R14.
Blockley manufacture all the tyre sizes for the W116 Mercedes types (280S, 280SE, 280SEL, 350SE, 350SEL, 450SE, 450SEL and 300SD) which was 185HR14, and please note that in addition we also produce a whitewall version of this 185HR14 tyre. The wider (but same diameter) version of this tyre is the 205/70VR14 size that the 350SE , 350SEL, and 450SE and 450SEL were fitted with, which often also get fitted to the cars originally having the 185HR14 tyres . . .
