MG - MG K Type
The K type MG was first seen at the 1932 Motor Show, with a six cylinder 1100cc engine. Because the engine capacity was less than the MG Magna, the new K Type became known as the Magnette. With a longer frame and wider track, the engine now had six individual inlet ports of larger diameter on it's cross flow cylinder head, now fitted with 3 carburettors. All K Types were fitted with the smaller ENV 75 preselector gearbox made to Wilson patents. From 1932 a stroked 1286 engine was also available.
The well known suprecharged K3 was in effect a supercharged version of the K2 with improved valves, valve springs and bearing material to cope with the higher power output, which was some 3 times greater than the non supercharged version of the engine. Production of the K Type MG's (K1, K2, K3 and KN) carried on to 1935.
MG K Type tyre size. The correct original fitment for the K Type MG's was listed 4.75x19, and Blockley is the only tyre company to produce this genuine 4.75x19 size! We market it as a dual marked "475/500x19" because nobody EVER asks for a 4.75x19 tyre ! Note that any other brand of 475/500x19 tyre is a 500x19 tyre with the smaller size added for good measure - see our article "Why are tyres dual marked?" In addition to the Blockley 475x19 tyre we also produce a taller diameter 500x19 for those that want the higher gearing.
