MG - MG TB

The MG TB was available from May of 1939 as a improvement over the earlier model TA which had been in production for 3 years. Externally the TB had minor differences, but the main difference was the newly designed larger bore and shorter stroked 1250cc XPAG engine, designed for strength and performance potential. The MG TA was also fitted with the new synchromesh (on the top 3 speeds) gearbox from the VA. But the new MG TB was hardly in production before the war broke out 4 months later. Post war, when MG picked up car production with their T series, it was this prewar TB model was the basis for the new TC.

All prewar MG's had wheels with their spokes going to the outside of the wheel rim, but it was part way through the MG TB  production that this changed to a wheel that had the spokes going to the middle of the wheel, into the well of the wheel rim, no doubt to strengthen the wheel. This different wheel was introduced from chassis number 1249, and it was this same wheel that was used in their post war version of the MGTA when MG built the TC. So remember, if your MG TB has these later wheels you will need to fit a rim band which helps protect the inner tube.

MG TB tyre size was originally 450x19, and Blockley produces the best quality 450x19 tyre you can buy - see full details of this exceptional 450x19 tyre below:
