MG - MGC

The MGC was a case of shoehorning a tuned six cylinder 3 litre BMC engine into the MGB shell, but with fairly extensive re-engineering. The MGC used the same specification 145bhp engine as had been used in the big Healey. A new torsion bar front suspension was required only because the engine would not in otherwise. Management had planned that the MGC would take over the mantle of the big Healey which had come to the end of its production. The MGC was available in both roadster and GT versions, with its distinctive bulge on the bonnet. But the MGC had quite heavy steering and for whatever reason was fitted with drum rather than disc brakes to the front wheels. The MGC got some very mixed reviews in the press and although introduced in 1967, production was was finished shortly after in 1969.

MGC tyre size: The MGC has 15" wheels which were fitted from the factory with the 165R15 tyre size, which for interest was the same radial tyre size that the big Healey which the MGC was intended to replace.
