Mini - Mini Cooper

John Cooper got his hands on the Austin Mini early on and did much development work to make the Mini into the formidable competition car it became. By 1961 BMC offered the Mini Cooper to the public, initially with larger engines than the standard factory product fitted with a 62.43 x 81.26mm "997" which by 1964 was followed by the 64.58 x 76.2 mm Mini Cooper "998" which had a much much more efficient larger bore, using a shorter stroke to keep it under 1,000ccc. The Cooper 998 was tuned to give no more than the same 55bhp of the earlier engine, but it did this at lower revs, and this finalised version of the Mini Cooper was in production between 1964 and 1965. While these Austin Mini Coopers were being made, there was also the Mini Cooper S, also known as the Cooper S 1071 which we deal with elsewhere.

Mini Cooper cars built between 1961 and 1965 had tyre size 5.20x10 which is equivalent radial 145R10 Blockley size. We also produce the wider (but same diameter) 165/70R10 tyre size for those that want this. See full details of these tyres below:
