Morgan
Morgan was synonymous with the 3 wheeler which HFS Morgan first developed in 1906, that was continually improved, and raced at Brooklands until they were banned, in reality for being too competitive! There were many engines used over the years such as the Blackburn, JAP, Anzani and Matchless. The first 4 wheeled car appeared in 1935 that was called the 4/4 which had a conventional Climax engine. Post war a Standard engine was used, and when the longer wheelbase Plus 4 was made in 1950 Standard provided the Vanguard engine for it, as used in the Triumph TR2, 3 and 4. By 1955 Morgan first looked to Ford with the 1172 engine for the Series 2, followed by the Anglia engine for the Series 3. For the Series 5 and onward Morgan fitted the 1600 Cortina engine. Any deviation from the core of what a Morgan was never worked out well, so the company stuck with their core recipe. And then came the Morgan Plus 8 with a V8 engine, that started in 1968.
