Morris - Morris Major
The Morris Major was the Australian built version of BMC's Wolseley 1500, built from 1958, with a vast Australian built content. The Major design based around the Morris Minor floor pan and suspension fitted with the 1500cc engine driving through the MG Magnette gearbox. By mid 1959 came the restyled Morris Major Series 2, which was also more robust with strengthened chassis, rear axle and modified sump to give increased ground clearance.
By early 1962 the car was called the Morris Major Elite with minor stylistic changes and an enlarged 1622cc engine, and although still using a single carburettor, this was now a Zenith unit. Production of the Major continued to 1964.
Original tyre size for the Morris Major was 5.20x14, and the radial equivalent of this is the 145R14 which Blockley produces the best example of. This is a period looking steel belted top quality product built at the largest diameter possible. See details below:
