Opel - Opel Manta
The Opel Manta was a 2 door sports coupe with a fast back that went into production from 1970. The first series of Manta (Series A) carried on being built until 1975. This was the 2 door model that General Motors was hoping would compete head on with the well selling Ford Capri. The Manta was a excellent handling car, and won numerous rallies, with Opel even marketing a Manta 1.9 litre "Rallye" model between 1971 and 1975 in their catalogue. The Opel Manta was available with 1.2 litre , 1.6 litre and 1.9 litre engines, the largest engine being fitted with fuel injection after 1975. This fuel injected 1.9 litre was the top of the range Opel designated the Manta GT/E.
From 1977 onward the new Opel Manta B was in effect a redesigned Opel Ascona, which was now also the equivalent Vauxhall Cavalier in the UK. Again the engines were the 1.2, 1.6 and 1.9 fuel injected engine for the Manta GT/E, which became a larger capacity 2 litre carburettor engine in 1976. The Opel Manta stayed in production until 1988.
Opel Manta tyre size for all models is 165SR13 with the wider tyre 185/70HR13 used on the more powerful models. So for example the 60hp and 75hp models would have the 165R13 size while the 80, 90,105hp and 140hp models used the wider 185/70VR13 size, which had the same diameter. As a rule the 165R13 size was fitted on their 5" rims and the wider 185/70R13 tyre on the widest wheel rim used by Opel which was 5.5" - although the 185/70R15 tyre size was also fitted to their 5" wheel rim .
