Porsche - Porsche 912
The Porsche 912 was available from 1965 and is in essence a 911 Porsche fitted with the 1600cc 4 cylinder detuned version of what had been used in the 356 model. The high price of the 911 was pushing away some traditional Porsche customers to other makes, so the idea of the Porsche 912 was to have a car at a similar price level to the 356 which was coming to the end of its production. Since the new 911 was quite a price jump, Porsche and the agents were worried that sales of cars could be adversely affected. And Porsche must have been correct in this decision because the 912 vastly outsold the 911 to start with. The 912 also had better weight distribution with better handling. Production of the Porsche 912 ended in 1969 (with both standard and Targa versions), and was later replaced by the 914 model.
