Porsche - Porshe 924
The Porsche 924 was the first front engine with rear wheel drive road car carrying the Porsche name, built from 1976 to 1988 as the replacement for the 914. The 924 had started off as a design exercise for VW, but it was shelved because VW went down the Audi route by developing their Polo, Golf and Scirocco. So Porsche later used their existing design work to build their new 924, to be built at VW's Audi plant. The Porsche 924 two litre engine was fuel injected, but due to the US emissions situation the US versions of the 924 were rather tame in performance, until the advent of the 924 Turbo! By 1988 Porsche decided to concentrate elsewhere and closed down production of not only the 924 but also their 944 model.
