Reliant - Reliant Scimitar GT SE4
For 1966 there was a new Reliant in the form of the Reliant Scimitar GT SE4, a close coupled GT based on a shorter chassis version of the Sabre 6. The new car had bodywork design by Ogle, who had earlier built a project based on the Daimler SP250 which had not taken up by Daimlers new owners, Jaguar. This Scimitar initially had the same 2.6 litre Ford Zodiac engine of its predecessor but with increased power from a triple carburettor set up,
For 1966 the new Scimitar GT SE4A was fitted with Fords new shorter 3 litre V6, now placed further back in the frame and at the same time there were suspension modifications and wider wheels as standard. For the following year 1967 a lower priced Scimitar GT SE4 with 2.5 litre Ford V6 option was introduced alongside, which was still plenty fast enough!
The Scimitar GT SE4 tyre size was originally 165R15 , and Blockley produces the superb high speed rated, period correct steel belt construction 165VR15. But remember most other models of the Scimitar built later were fitted with 14 inch wheels and the 185R14 tyre size, and Blockley produces the perfect 185HR14 also. See details of both these tyres below:
