Renault - Renault Fregate
The Renault Fregate was a larger upmarket car built by the newly nationalised Renault from 1951 as the economy of France started improving. Independent suspension all around and a monocoque construction, the engine was a 2 litre 4 cylinder. For 1956 it was enlarged to 2141 cc in search of more power, the same year that an estate version was built called the Renault Domaine, followed a year later by a luxury version of the estate called the Renault Manoir. The Fregate was produced up to 1960 after which Renault started marketing the 6 cylinder Studebaker.
Renault Fregate tyre size was originally 165x380 which is identical to the 165R15 tyre size. 380mm was the French way of saying 15 inches.
