Riley - Riley 12/4
The Riley 12/4 was the new 1.5 litre introduced in 1935, and had it's own version of the Falcon, Lynx and Kestrel (later 6 light Kestrel) bodies, followed by Adelphi and latterly the Continental. With more capacity and now a three bearing crankshaft the performance was an improvement over the earlier 9hp. The sporting version of the 12/4 was the 2 seater Sprite sports car, and there was a Sprite engine option of this engine engine available on some models such as the Kestrel, which had higher compression and altered cylinder head with different water circulation around the engine that produced more power. It was the Riley 12/4 engine that was used as the basis for the post war Turner and Lea Francis engines. Production of the Riley 12/4 carried on until 1938.
