Saab - Saab 99
The Saab 99 was built from 1968, as a altogether larger vehicle with front wheel drive, to replace the smaller Saab 96. Throughout the Saab 99 production, there were three engine capacities; 1709 cc, 1854 cc and 2 litre (1985 cc). The Triumph engine, laid over at 45 degrees got a capacity increase for 1971, but Saab eventually built it's own four cylinder 2 litre engine to overcome the unreliability issues with the Triumph engine. The Saab models were the 1709cc fuel injected Saab 99 E , the 2 door sports Saab 99 EMS , the 99EMS version built for the USA called the Saab 99 SSE , the basic model Saab 99 X7 , the 1.8 litre Saab 99L , Saab 99 LE , Grande Lux Saab 99 GL , and twin carburettor version Saab 99 GLs, and the fuel injected version of the Grand Lux which was Saab 99 GLE , the 2 litre turbocharged Saab 99 Turbo and the longer wheelbase Saab 99 Finlandia. As you can see there was a plethora of Saab 99 models! Saab 99 production carried on to 1984.
