SEAT (Sociedad de Automoviles de Turismo) was a Spanish company, set up in 1950 and owned by the Spanish government, private banking finance and 7% Fiat as part of a plan to get the country revived and industrialised, with the cars built for the domestic market. With Fiat as a partner, all products were Fiat based. Exports started in 1969, with the SEAT's outside of Spain branded as Fiat. From the beginning of production in 1953 there was the SEAT 1400 followed by SEAT 600 and by the 1960's the SEAT 850, 1500, 124 and by the 1970's the 132. By the mid 1970s SEAT had produced over 2 million cars. The SEAT1200 Sport in 1975 had a lot of in house work to it, followed by the 128 and Ritmo is 1979 and Seat Panda. By the early 1980's SEAT was sold by the Spanish government to VW, so many of the models from here on are VW based.
