Simca - Simca 1000
The Simca 1000 was made between 1961 and 1978. It came about through the friendship of the Simca President and Fiats owner Agnelli. In a nutshell, the Simca 1000 was largely based on a project at Fiat where Dante Giacosa looked at a replacement 4 door vehicle which was to replace the Fiat 600. As things turned out the Fiat 600 was so successful it was in production for far longer than the company had anticipated, so retooling for a 4 door replacement was put off. This rear engine 4 door Simca 1000 saloon was in production for nearly 2 decades, with various upgrades as the years went on, using an engine based on the original Simca Type 315.
