Standard - Standard Ensign
The Standard Ensign was available from 1958 with bodywork styled by Michelotti, the same as was used by the Vanguard. But the Ensign cost less, with it's smaller 1670cc engine, and lower specification, although it did have a 4 speed gearbox with floor shift. For the last couple of years of Ensign production there was also the Ensign DeLux option with the larger engine. The Standard Ensign was in production to 1963, being replaced in the Leyland range by the Triumph 2000, and after this the Standard brand name was not used again.
Standard Ensign tyre size was originally 5.90x15 , and the radial equivalent of this size is 165R15, as recommended in period tyre lists for the Standard. Blockley produces a superb steel belt construction 165VR15 tyre, perfect for the Standard Ensign - see full details of this tyre below:
