Talbot - Talbot Sunbeam Lotus

The Talbot Sunbeam Lotus was the Linwood built Sunbeam, which was the machine Chrysler asked Lotus to develop into a Rally car in order to boost the image of the Sunbeam and Talbot products as a sports car. Starting with a Sunbeam 1.6 GLS delivered direct from the Linwood plant to the Lotus factory in Norfolk, the cars were given the 2173cc version of the Lotus engine, coupled to a 5 speed gearbox with altered suspension which became a highly effective Rally car, eventually winning the Manufacturers championship for Talbot in 1981. The road going version of this Sunbeam Lotus was called the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus and available from mid 1979. On the European mainland they were also marketed as Simca Lotus Sunbeam. Production of the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus ceased after the Linwood plant was closed in 1981.

Talbot Sunbeam Lotus original tyre fitment was 185/70VR13 tyre, and Blockley produce the perfect period correct high speed rated steel belted example - see full details below. In addition to this size Blockley also produce a wider 13" tyre suitable for wider wheel rims (up to 9"), in size 235/60VR13. Although 185/70R15 is the correct size we also note other specialists recommending a smaller diameter tyre 175/70R13, so we list this below also, in case this size is of interest.
