Toyota - Toyota Crown

The Toyota Crown first appeared in 1955, with the Crown name lasting some 15 generations until a couple of years ago. As such it is the longest running model from Toyota. Somewhat underpowered when introduced to the US market the engine size was increased to 1.9 litres, with the second generation Crowns available from 1963 was a overall larger car. Reworked with an improved chassis with 2 litre engine (including the 6 cylinder "M" option) this was the first time the Crown was also available as a 2 door coupe. Restyled heavily with various improvements (and a larger 2.6 litre option) for the fourth generation of the Crown in 1971, the new shape was ahead of what the US customers desired so the bodywork became more conventional for 1974, the cars now only having the 6 cylinder engine, made more efficient with the use of Toyotas own fuel injection system. From 1973 to 1983 the sixth generation of Toyotas Crown had been lightened and engines made more fuel efficient, and by 1980 a turbo version was also available.

Toyota Crown tyre sizes: The earliest cars had 6.40x15 tyres, the radial equivalent of which is 185R15 tyre size. From 1971 the tyre size quoted by Toyota was was 6.95x14 which is radial tyre size 185R14, with the 185HR14 being fitted as standard later by Toyota in any case. Blockley produces all these tyres sizes for the Toyota Crown, full details of which can be seen below:
