Triumph - Triumph GT6
The Triumph GT6 started off as a design exercise based on the Triumph Spitfire, turning it into a fastback coupe version, by bodywork designer Michelotti. But after completion it was concluded that the extra weight compromised it's performance too much, so this project got left to one side. But a few years later, by 1966, the project was resurrected as the the Triumph GT6, fitted with the more powerful twin carburettor 6 cylinder 2 litre Vitesse engine. The extra power of this engine gave the Triumph GT6 a good performance, although the swing axle rear suspension inherited from the Herald could be tricky, even when not at the limit. The GT6 Mk2 introduced in 1968 was improved in this area, along with another 10hp more power output (109hp). The GT6 Mk3 was introduced in 1970 and recognisable by it's flared wheel arches, full width bumper and flush door handles, and the different steel wheels with slots in them - while under the skin the rear suspension was further improved. Production of the Triumph GT6 went through to 1973.
Tyre size for the Triumph GT6 was originally 155R13. However, most owners fit the slightly wider version 175/70R13 size which has the same diameter. In addition, we have also supplied many GT6 owners with the slightly larger diameter 165R13 tyre size. Blockley makes high quality steel belted 175/70VR13 and 165HR13 tyre with correct tread patterns, which are the best handling tyres you can find, and at great prices - see full details of these GT6 options below:
