TVR - TVR Grantura
The TVR Grantura name was used on a series of models carrying the TVR name, from the very first production car in 1958 to the MGB engined cars going through until 1967. The initial Mk1 Grantura used a steel backbone chassis onto which VW front and rear suspensions were attached, and fitted either with a 1098cc Ford or an 1172cc Climax option. Later on for the Mk.2 Grantura, the chassis had more conventional independent suspension all round which improved the handling. Virtually any engine a customer wanted could be accommodated but usual engine choice was the MGA with a later 1622cc version, or Ford 1340cc. The TVR Grantura Mk3 had a new longer wheelbase chassis and coil spring TVR suspension at the front, and as a rule tended to be fitted with the MGA and Ford engines, although by the time the MGB engine was installed, this became the standard supplied engine. Although some bodywork changes had come about throughout the years, it was in 1965 that the squared off back was introduced. Later chassis were altered in anticipation of fitting a V8 engine for future models . . .
