Vauxhall - Vauxhall 23/60
The Vauxhall 23/60 was available from 1922 and has many similarities with the sportier shorter chassis 30/98. The 23/60 engine was basically the 3969cc (95x140) of the earlier 25hp model it replaced, but now redesigned with overhead valves, while careful attention was paid to the crankshaft balance to keep the engine smooth using the principles of the pioneer Dr. Fred Lanchester. Like most cars of this period the 23/60 had a brakeless front axle until mid way through 1924 when 4 wheel brakes were introduced, necessitating a different front axle. Many of the 23/60's had the handsome Knighton Tourer bodywork. Production of the 23/60 ceased at the end of 1925 when the Vauxhall company was taken over by General Motors.
Tyre size for the Vauxhall 23/60 was originally the tall 880x120 beaded edge size. Many of the 23/60's have been converted to later well base wheels over the years, but we would urge owners to revert back to original beaded edge if they can, as Blockley now makes the perfect 880x120 for trouble free, reliable motoring, with a tyre that really returns colossal mileage too, which will lighten the steering. These Blockley tyres are the best tyres available, which is why we made them! But for those cars which have been fitted with non standard wheels later on, Blockley can also supply any of these 20", 21" or 23" tyre sizes.
