Vauxhall - Vauxhall Ventora

The Vauxhall Ventora was available from early 1968 as the combination of the Victor FD into which the 6 cylinder 3.3 litre engine from the Cresta was installed, resulting in the Ventora. It was the best performing of the Vauxhall range and at a price that was also attractive in the showroom. Advertising man Murray Walker was on the Vauxhall account at the time and came up with the Ventora name,  which was a convoluted mixture of Victor and Cresta, from which it was born from. Although not a big success, it pointed the way for bigger 6 cylinder engines in every day saloons, something that BMW and Mercedes became masters at. The Vauxhall Ventora lasted in production until 1976.
