Volvo - Volvo 164
The Volvo 164, sold from 1969, was a 4 door saloon of the Volvo 14 range, now fitted with a 6 cylinder 3 litre seven main bearing engine, built specially for the luxury car market to compete with the likes of BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar, although this was never fully achieved. The number 164 meaning First series, 6 cylinder and 4 doors. Wheelbase was lengthened and for 1972 fuel injection was added which increased the engine power to 175bhp. Restyled extensively for 1973. The Volvo 164 production went on to 1975.
