Wolseley - Wolseley 18/85
The first time there was a Wolseley 18/85 was 1938, with their six cylinder 2332 cc engine which was the same as that in the MG SA. This car was in production until 1948.
The later Wolseley 18/85 was produced from 1967, a badge engineered BMC machine which was basically the Austin 1800, that had been produced three years earlier in 1964. The 18/85 Wolseley model description would have been used because of the previous Wolseley use of the term. The advantage of the Wolseley 18/85 had by appearing a few years after the Austin was that many of the teething troubles of the Austin were avoided on the Wolseley 18/85. Then alongside developments with the Austin 1800 version, so the the Wolseley in 1969 became the 18/85 Mk2 and the twin carburettor higher horsepower 18/85S in 1970. Production carried on to 1972.
